Sixth Annual Conference of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy - Canterbury, UK, 30-31 May 2012
The sixth annual conference of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy (ISSDP) will be held at Cathedral Lodge. The event will be hosted by the University of Kent (School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research).
The confirmed keynote speakers are:
- Professor Thomas McLellan, University of Pennsylvania (formerly Deputy Director of the US Office for National Drug Contol Policy)
- Dr Fiona Measham, University of Lancaster and member of the UK Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs
- Martin Jelsma, Transnational Institute
The conference will discuss a wide range of drug policy issues, with a particular focus on 'how can and do empirical studies influence drug policy?. There will also be a plenary, critical discussion of the report of the Global Commission on Drug Policy.

The 2013 annual conference of the ISSDP will be held at Universidad de los Andes, in Bogota, Colombia
This will be the first time that the ISSDP annual meeting takes place outside Europe or the US. By holding the 2013 ISSDP annual conference in Latin America we aim to encourage more research on drug policy issues in producer and transit countries and the increased involvement of Latin American researchers in the ISSDP.

Fifth Annual Conference of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy - Utrecht, Netherlands, 23-24 May 2011
The fifth annual conference of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy (ISSDP) was held at the Mitland Hotel, Utrecht, the Netherlands, May 23-24, 2011. The event was hosted by the Trimbos Institute.
Keynote speakers were:
- Professor Ambros Uchtenhagen, Zurich Institute for Addiction Research
- Professor Peter Reuter, University of Maryland
The conference was followed by specialist workshops on 'Assessing options for supply of marijuana to legal cannabis markets' and on 'Unintended consequences of drug policy' on 25th May.

Fourth Annual Conference of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy - Santa Monica, California, 15-16 March 2010
This conference was co-hosted by RAND Drug Policy Research Center and UCLA's Integrated Substance Abuse Program. Papers from the conference are available from the conference website.
The plenary speakers were:
- Antonio Maria Costa, Executive Director, United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime
- Keith Humphreys, Senior Policy Advisor to the Deputy Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, USA
- María Elena Medina-Mora, General Director, National Institute of Psychiatry, Mexico; and former member, International Narcotics Control Board
- Zunyou Wu, Director, National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention
Immediately after the conference on 17th March, there was an ISSDP workshop on sociological and anthropological contributions to drug policy studies, under the title Drugs, Culture and Society. On the afternoon of 17th March, there was also a workshop on Developments in Longitudinal Modeling of Drug Use and Associated Outcomes.
Third Annual Conference of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy - Vienna, 2-3 March 2009
This conference took place on March 2-3 2009 in at the offices of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna, Austrial. The papers and presentations from ISSDP's Third Annual Conference are available here.

Second Annual Conference of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy
This conference took place on April 3-4 2008 in Lisbon, Portugal. It was supported by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) and the Instituto da Droga e da Toxicodependência (IDT).

First Annual Conference of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy
The first annual conference and meeting of the newly formed International Society for the Study of Drug Policy (ISSDP) was held in Oslo, March 22-23, 2007. The event was supported by the Nordic Council for Alcohol and Drug Research (NAD) with the Norwegian Institute for Alcohol and Drug Research (SIRUS) as local host.
